Leaving the past behind…

I had a rough day yesterday!  I know I am not alone.  Day after day we face temptations - what we do with those temptations makes all the difference.  Ice cream is a major red light food for me - I can’t have it in the house.  A 1/2 gallon will only last 24 hours.  How many nights in the past (at least once a week) would I sit and devour a 9″ pizza by myself.  Pizza was my poison yesterday.  For two days I was craving pizza.  I broke down last night and had some - as we are not to deprive ourselves.  Following I had some ice cream - but it was the light version.  Sure I ended my day approximate 1000 calories over my limit.  And then I thought - you had two healthy low cal meals earlier in the day, imagine what it would have been like without those!  Bonus points for me - I did journal everything, so I am not denying what I did.

So what to do now…in the past it would have been the beginning of giving up, but not this time.  I awoke refreshed after a peaceful night sleep, ready to jump back on my wagon and continue my journey.  It’s 9PM and I have consumed 1403 calories today - YAY ME!  On top of that, I did a fifteen minute segment of upper body toning.  Later I had some errands to run, so I turned them into errands to WALK.  I returned materials to the library and did some minor grocery shopping by foot.  By the end of my errands, I had logged 2.6 miles in 1.25 hours - that includes shopping time.  I was very pleased with myself.  I journaled, exercised, stayed in my calorie range and drank 32 ounces of water.  I am pleased with myself.

“I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back. ” Phillipians 3:12-13

Way to go Teri! Had you given up you would not have the positive attitude that you have today. I’m glad that you took the initiative to walk your errands instead of driving. Not only did you do something good for you but good for the environment as well. :) May God be with you on this journey to fitness.

Buy small pizzas, small containers of ice cream. Keep only one in the freezer. You might have some completion issues. I do. At least if you consume the whole thing, it’s small.
